Alexander County Health Department (ACHD) assures comprehensive prenatal care through a contract with Catawba Valley Maternity Services in Hickory, NC.
In-house services include:
- Pregnancy Tests
- Postpartum follow-up care may be provided in our Family Planning Clinic
- Testing for STDs (sexually transmitted diseases)
Pregnancy Testing
Pregnancy tests are offered Monday through Friday 8 am – 11 am and 1 pm – 4 pm. Results are confidential. Family Planning services are available to individuals with a negative pregnancy test. Individuals with a positive pregnancy test who wish to receive prenatal care are referred to Catawba Valley Maternity Services or the maternal health provider of their choice for comprehensive support throughout pregnancy. Pregnancy Care Management
Pregnancy Care Management is a program for Medicaid-eligible pregnant women who have specific priority risk factors that may affect their pregnancy. Referrals are made directly by OB/GYN doctors, family practices, and/or local support agencies. The goals of the program are to encourage a healthy birth outcome for mom and baby and to reduce the risks of preterm labor statewide.
